How to complain about a casino, and get somewhere
Last updated 26 July 2026 · Free at every step
If a casino has your money and will not release it, you are not powerless and you do not need a lawyer. There is a free process that works, run by mediators the industry actually answers to. Most people never hear about it, so they give up or shout on Trustpilot, and neither of those gets paid.
Here is the order to do things in, from someone who has read a lot of these case files.
First, the honest filter
Sort your situation into one of two piles. “I lost” means the games took your money, which is the product working as designed, and no complaint anywhere will bring it back. “They did not pay” means the casino has broken its own rules or is stalling on money you are owed. Only the second pile is a complaint. Being clear about which one you are in will save you weeks.
The process, in order
Get your evidence together before you write anything
Screenshots of the balance, the withdrawal request and its status, the date and time of every attempt, the exact bonus terms as they appeared when you claimed, and the full chat transcripts. Casinos change their terms pages. Your screenshot of what it said on the day is the strongest thing you will have.
Contact the casino in writing, not in live chat
Live chat is for speed, email is for evidence. State plainly what happened, what you want, and by when. Keep it short and unemotional, because the person reading it did not do this to you and will help you faster if you are easy to help. Ask them to confirm in writing which term they are relying on.
Escalate inside the casino and give it a fortnight
Ask for their formal complaints procedure and for the matter to go to a manager. Licensed operators have to have one. Two weeks is a reasonable wait, and it also matters because mediators will ask whether you tried the casino first.
Go to free mediation, which is where things actually get resolved
Two services do this well and neither charges you a cent. Casino Guru’s Complaint Resolution Center and AskGamblers’ complaint service both open a public case, contact the operator and publish the outcome. That publicity is the leverage: a casino that ignores you will usually not ignore a case file its future customers can read. AskGamblers reports typical first responses in around two days and cases closing in about a week.
Then the regulator, with realistic expectations
Every licensed casino names its regulator in the footer. For Curaçao licences that is the Gaming Control Board, and its seal usually links to a verification page. Be aware that players report Curaçao does not handle individual disputes the way a European regulator would, so treat this as putting a mark on the operator’s record rather than as the route to your money. If the site is regulated in Ontario, the AGCO and iGaming Ontario are a genuinely stronger channel.
Payment provider, last and carefully
If a deposit was taken and never credited, your bank or card issuer may be able to reverse it. Do not attempt a chargeback on money you lost fairly: it will fail, and it will get your account closed and your remaining balance frozen. This step is for transactions that went wrong, not for regret.
Where to file
| Service | Good for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Casino Guru | Most disputes. Public case files, active mediation, detailed methodology | Free |
| AskGamblers | Large operators that care about their listing. Fast response times | Free |
| The casino’s regulator | Putting a formal mark on the record. Named in the site footer | Free |
| AGCO and iGaming Ontario | Ontario players on provincially regulated sites only. The strongest option if it applies to you | Free |
Why complaints get rejected
I went through the public case files for one casino recently: 58 complaints, 19 resolved, 39 rejected. Rejected does not mean the player was lying. It usually means one of these:
- The player stopped replying. The most common reason by far. Mediators need you to answer their questions, sometimes twice, sometimes slowly. Stay in the conversation.
- The terms were technically on the casino’s side. Painful, but a bonus rule you did not read is still a bonus rule you agreed to.
- It was outside the service’s remit, or the casino was not in their database.
- It was a losing session rather than a breach.
What makes a complaint succeed
- Dates, amounts and screenshots, in order
- One clear ask, stated once, rather than a list of grievances
- Evidence that you tried the casino first
- Answering the mediator promptly, even when you are tired of the whole thing
- Honesty about anything you did wrong, such as a second account or a VPN. They will find it, and it lands much better coming from you
Things that will sink your case
- More than one account, which is against the terms nearly everywhere
- Playing through a VPN from a country the casino does not serve
- Depositing with someone else’s card or bank account
- An unverified account. Do the ID check on day one and this problem disappears
- Abuse aimed at support staff, which changes nothing except how carefully anyone reads your file
The one habit that prevents most of this
Complete verification before your first deposit, not after your first win. Look through the complaint files and an enormous share of them are the same story: the player left the ID check until the moment they wanted their money, and then experienced an ordinary compliance process as a stalling tactic. It is boring advice and it works.
If the money is gone and it hurts
Sometimes the answer is that a casino did nothing wrong and the money is not coming back. That is a genuinely hard thing to sit with, especially if it was more than you could afford.
If that is where you are, the responsible gambling page lists free confidential lines in every province. In Québec, Gambling: Help and Referral answers 24 hours a day on 1-800-461-0140. They take calls about exactly this, and you do not have to be in crisis to phone them.
